The Boss Open: Starting Grass Season Right

We arrived at the Hugo Boss Open in Stuttgart on the day of the quarterfinals. Having attended this beautiful event two years ago, we were excited to return. Located on the outskirts of Stuttgart, the tournament is held at a genuine grass-court tennis club — and yes, it's one of the few authentic grass-court venues left on the professional circuit, which makes the experience even more special. Boss had put together a full program for us, and we were looking forward to an action-packed day.

We woke up to a rainy day, but thankfully, the Boss team took great care of us and quickly adapted the schedule. We were originally meant to take part in a tennis activation on one of the tournament courts, but due to the weather, the session was moved to a nearby indoor tennis club.
There, we were joined by Dan Bloxham, the Wimbledon Master of Ceremony, who led an excellent tennis clinic. Together with a group of journalists, content creators, and tennis personalities, we spent nearly two hours on court taking part in drills, games, and team competitions. Dan did a fantastic job of keeping everyone engaged and entertained throughout the session. Of course, we were all dressed head-to-toe in Boss.
When we arrived at the hotel the day before, a beautiful Boss tennis kit was already waiting for us in our rooms, and we couldn't wait to put it to use on court. Despite the rain outside, the morning turned into a fantastic tennis experience full of interaction, competition, and fun.

A Full Afternoon of Tennis
After the clinic, we were especially excited because one of our favourite players, Nick Kyrgios, was scheduled to play doubles alongside Alexander Bublik later that day. Knowing Kyrgios' unpredictable nature, we weren't entirely sure he would actually take the court, but there were several exciting singles matches on the schedule as well. One of the most anticipated was Mattia Bellucci versus Taylor Fritz. Bellucci has been making impressive progress over the past year, and as Italians, we were particularly excited to watch him compete.

The Boss Experience Hospitality
We headed to the hospitality area upon arrival, which is one of the highlights of the event. The setup offers a fantastic atmosphere right in the heart of the tournament.
But the standout feature was the Boss pop-up installation: a giant inflatable Boss shopping bag with a huge logo visible from across the venue. It was a clever and visually striking concept, allowing visitors to walk inside and shop within the installation itself. After lunch, the rain finally stopped, and we made our way to the Colosseum Court, where Alexander Bublik was facing Frenchman Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard.

Up Close with Nick Kyrgios
While watching the match, we bumped into Daniel, Nick Kyrgios' manager, whom we had first met years ago at Indian Wells. He was carrying a pair of Kyrie Irving basketball shoes and told us that Nick was about to head out for a practice session. Naturally, we were excited. Even better, Daniel kindly invited us onto the practice court while Kyrgios was hitting, allowing us to watch from extremely close range. It was a unique opportunity to see one of the sport's most entertaining players up close!

At the same time, the Bellucci–Fritz match had begun. Our hospitality seats were positioned high behind the baseline, but since we love photographing tennis from close range, we moved down to the front row on the side of the court. It turned out to be an incredible match. Mattia Bellucci played exceptionally well, and watching tennis on grass is always fascinating. The ball stays low, points develop differently, and the style of play contrasts dramatically with what you see on clay or hard courts. It was a fantastic reminder of how unique grass-court tennis really is.

An Evening in the Hills of Stuttgart
The dinner took place at a beautiful winery in the hills outside Stuttgart. Before sitting down to eat, we were given a tour of the property and enjoyed stunning views over the surrounding landscape. It was the perfect setting to end a day filled with tennis, great company, and memorable experiences. We spent the evening with the Boss team, fellow guests, journalists, and content creators, sharing stories over dinner and reflecting on the beautiful day we had.

A Grass Tournament Worth Going
If you haven't been yet, we highly recommend attending the Boss Open. Not only is it one of the few genuine grass-court events on the ATP calendar, but it is also hosted at an authentic tennis club, giving it a unique atmosphere that feels deeply connected to the traditions of the sport. Alongside Wimbledon and Queen's Club, Stuttgart stands out as one of the premier grass-court tournaments in the world. A huge thank you to Boss for hosting us. While the weather wasn't exactly on our side, the team made sure we enjoyed every minute and made the most of an unforgettable trip.
